How can i get attachment to open in browsesr?

We are uploading multiple attachments against contact records - pdfs, jpgs, bmps etc. When we click on them they are downloading to the local drive for opening. Is there any way we can get them to open in browser? I can change my browser setting to open PDFs in browser but not other file types and anyway, I need to be able to control this at application level rather than individual device level.

Any ideas?

If you are storing these files in SharePoint, you can go into the advanced settings of the Document library and change the client application settings to Browser.

Thanks for the suggestion but we are not storing them in Sharepoint - they are uploaded by customers via a portal to CRM where we open them for verification purposes. They are eventually archived to Sharepoint but while the are "active" they are in CRM.

Ideally I would have them open in a new browser window.
