Hello everyone,
I am trying to set up a workflow that escalates approval based on hierarchy.
At the lowest level, there can be up to four tiers of managers. For example; A is the manager B, B the manager of C, C the manager of D and D is the manager of E.
What our company wants to set up is, a workflow that escalates approval for PTE up one managerial level at a time. When the approval is overdue, it will send the approval task up one level. It will continue doing this until it hits the top level manager.
I was attempting to set this up, but the most I can get it up is two levels. The workflow for PTE sends the approval to the employees direct manager, and when the task is overdue it sends it to the employees skip level manager. This works great, however I would like it to continue escalating instead of staying at the skip level manager.
Additionally, I would like this to work with delegation.
Thank you for your support.

I see.. so this look like more to be bug than a design flaw ?
Unfortunately something that is not easy to test with the Demo compny Fabrikam Inc. as it implies that you have AD users setup also.. we're not using the WF 2.0, so I can't quite speak for it. Have you talked to your partner ?
Yes I have tried that option, it seemed to send it right to the workflow manager.
Matt,
Which release of GP 2016 are you on ?
I've checked on my test system which is on R2 (16.00.0552) and in the Worflow maintenance, the Project Timesheet setup allows for an escalation to the next approver.. Have you checked that ?
Thank you Matt..
That is perfectly clear.. you want to be able to escalate above 2 levels of approvals.. right ?
Not sure if this is possible.. We haven't moved yet to 2016 and still use the BP TS reports for that purpose, where the managers are linked to the employee thru the PDK apps, and the hard limit is 2 approvers max as well.. :-(
Wish I had a straight answer.. I'd need to play that scenario first in my GP2016 test box.
Thanks for your response,
All of the users are assigned to a respective AD account, and have their managers set-up through AD as well.
I just have not found a way to continually escalate approval through next level managers. I'm not even sure this is possible.
I want it set up in a way that approval goes to the employees manager (which I have done and it works well), but if the approval is overdue it does to that managers manager. ( Which I have done as well,) My issue is that after that level manager if the task is overdue, I cant get it to escalate any further. To the employees manager, manager manager.
Sorry if thats not clear.
Hi Matt,
Re-bumping the thread several times won't make it answered faster :-).. If no-one asnwers within a reasonable timeframe, that means the usal SMEs here are either not in town or no one has a plausible response..
That said, PTE workflow relies mostly on the AD hierarchy in GP.. as the users are assigned to their respective AD-account to be able to manage the WF 2.0 rules.
If your company's operational structure is not reflected in AD's functional hierarchy, then this is going to be complicated, if not impossible to fullfil.
Have a look at Ian Grieve's book about WF 2.0 for GP 2016 (applies mostly to 2013 & 2015 too).

Ian has also several blog entries about WF 2.0.. check them out.

Is something of this sort not possible with Dynamics GP workflows?
