Filtering by information in product entity

Hi All,

I'm new to Dynamics CRM and was tasked by my company to try and put together a new CRM system to replace our old Access database. We have a lot (2000+) of products/services that will end up being updated yearly so I am trying to accomplish the following:

I would like to create fields in the Opportunity form that will "filter" down into selecting the final product. So the end goal is to accomplish something like this:

  1. Select Fiscal Year (this would filter all products that are in the selected fiscal year)
  2. Select Account (this would filter all the products specific to that account)
  3. Customer Type (filter products specific to that customer type)
  4. Category Type (filter products specific to the category type)
  5. Product (the final products list, "filtered" based on the previously selected fields above)

All the information in the fields I want to add are already stored within each of the product entity fields. (i.e. each product has it's own fiscal year, type, and category type) Is it possible to filter this way without extensive coding? Or will I have to create families for each category within the products and filter that way? I would appreciate any help or guidance.

    Hi Fredy

I dont think you can do achieve that without a code.

Seems like what you need is like a wizars that always rey to give best selection by eliminating the choices based on process in sequence.

And crm does not support wizard.

You can only use form then use tab probably. The business process flow in crm also wont help you to do filter.

Example is fiscal year selection. You need a code to filter product based on fiscal year .

Probably the other choice is you create 5 lookup fields that you will shorten the liat of product for each steps.

Or create a new UI. Like dependent liat and so on.

You can use adv find but advanced find wont be helping in the crm form.

Hope this makes you clearer. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Aileen, I appreciate it. I figured it wouldn't be possible without code. Do you know how I would I create the 5 lookup fields in order to shorten the list? I think that would be the best option at this point.

    Hi Andres,

Thanks for the response. It seems that I am looking for something a little bit more complex than a filter for an option set. All the information that I need is already stored within the product entity (fiscal year, category, type, etc..). I am hoping to filter down to allow users to be able to select the right product, in the opportunities form, based on selected fields in the form from the information in the product entity.

As an example:  If I select Fiscal Year 2016, Central Washington (Account), Commercial (Customer Type), Commercial Washers (Category) in the Opportunities form, that the final products list field will be filtered down to those that meet all the selected criteria.

    Is something like this possible?
