Hi Guys,

Kindly asking for your suggestions on this;how to increase a field size. E.g

Transactions>Financials>General.......i want to increase the field size of REFERENCE and Description fields. They both have a limit of 30 characters.

Anyone with suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Charles Ssiele

    Hi Charles

If you are using the package from my example on the blog, you will need to change security to use the modified version of the window.

Note we are not actually changing the field size, but replacing the field with a larger local field and using the DUOS to store the longer string.  We also update as the original field with the first 30 characters so that it has as much of the string as will fit.

Please check that you have updated security to use the modified windows and reports.

    Thanks

    David

    Hi Charles

The example only increases the size of the Reference field in the header.

To increase the size of the field on scrolling window is more complex as the key field (sequence number) is not populated until the line is saved.

You would need to incorporate the technique in the follow post to allow the Scrolling window field to be chaged using a similar method as used in the header.

Can you do this without owning Modifier?

    Hi Corrie

You would need to have the Customization Site License registered to use a package created by someone else, usually your partner.

If you don't have either, then Extender or a custom Dexterity app would be needed. Note that Dexterity can only make the change in the original window if the window is part of the core Dynamics.dic dictionary.

    Dave,

On the link to the zip file to test this out, it references up to GP10, could I try that in GP 2010 R2 also?

    Thank you.
