We are migrating from Hybrid Exchange to Exchange Online. Are there steps I need to take before the migration to ensure emails from/to CRM continue? Or can I migrate the mailboxes after the change takes place?

    Hi

You will have to do the following in CRM to make sure the mailboxes continue to work

    01. You will have to create new Server profile in Email Configuration area - you cannot change the Profile Server type from Hybrid to Online

    02. You will then have to update all the existing active mailboxes to point to the new Online Server Profile. You can do this by doing an advance find on mailboxes entity and doing a bulk edit to change the server profile

    03. Once you changed the Server Profile, you will have to select all the mailboxes and do a bulk test & enable for all of them. The Test & Enable is an async process and it will take some time to test all the mailboxes. Keep monitoring the mailboxes view and check the test status, if all of them are succeeding for incoming, outgoing and appointment/contact/task sync, it means all good to go.

One other step I would recommend is to change the default Org level settings for mailboxes. Change the Server Profile to the new one. This will make sure when you add any new user to the CRM instance, it will apply these default settings

ok. Two questions: 1) I assume I need to modify the profiles immediately after they are all switched and not before? 2) There is already a server-side sync profile, are you saying that I need to create a NEW exchange online server profile?

Yes you only have to do the steps I mentioned above after the migration.

And yes since you cant change the hybrid profile to Online type, you will have to create new server profile of Online type.

Once you got your new profile up and running, you can deactivate or delete the old one

When I create the new server all the pertinent fields disappear except the name and description. How can I make it stop?

RE: D365 online migrating to Exchange online

You need to consider the below steps before migrating from Exchange Hybrid to Exchange Online:

Estimated time to complete: 10 minutes to configure the migration batch, but total time to complete the migration depends on the number of mailboxes included in each migration batch.

You need to be assigned permissions before you can perform this procedure or procedures. To see what permissions you need, see the "Mailbox Move and Migration Permissions" section in the Recipients permissions topic.

Hybrid deployment is configured between your on-premises and Exchange Online organizations.

If you're running Exchange 2013, make sure the Mailbox Replication Proxy Service (MRSProxy) is enabled on your on-premises Exchange 2013 Client Access servers.

For information about keyboard shortcuts that may apply to the procedures in this topic, see Keyboard shortcuts for the Exchange admin center.

The Office 365 Exchange license must be assigned only after the migration is complete. You then have 30 days to assign the license. If you need any help about Exchange migration or Hybrid migration Office 365, follow the link.

    I hope this helps!
