Posting of Timesheets in bulk on Manufacturing Production Orders

I note that the Production Journal does not allow edit in excel in BC and we would like to be able to upload timesheets in bulk against Production Orders. I'm guessing that the Output Journal could be used for that purpose but are there any apps that might be better or possible limitations with the output journal.
I have the same question (0)

Hi, You can submit this idea to Microsoft, and the Edit in Excel function is generally added by Microsoft.
    For example,

Or you can try the following method
Dynamics 365 Business Central: How to add Edit in Excel to Card and Document Pages (codeunit 1481 “Edit in Excel”)

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

The lack of Excel editability in the Production Journal can be a real bottleneck when you're trying to upload timesheets in bulk. While the Output Journal is a valid alternative, it does come with limitations, especially around setup time, indirect costs, and operation-level granularity.

    Here’s what you can consider:

    • The Output Journal is better suited for posting finished quantities and time usage, but it doesn’t support Excel import natively. You’d need to use configuration packages or a custom page to simulate bulk entry — which can be fragile if your routing or work center setup is complex.
    • For more robust handling, apps like Insight Works Shop Floor Insight or Netronic Visual Production Scheduler offer time capture modules that integrate directly with production orders. These tools allow barcode scanning, mobile entry, and batch posting — much closer to what you're aiming for.
    • If you’re open to customization, you can expose a simplified API page or use Power Automate to push timesheet data from Excel or a third-party form into BC. This gives you control over validations and lets you bypass journal UI constraints.

You’re right, the Production Journal doesn’t support Excel edits, and while the Output Journal can work for bulk time entry, it has limitations. For better handling, consider using a timesheet app like Insight Works or explore other AppSource options.
