Developing integration app for Dynamics

Hi,

I need the help of the good folks of this forum because I have spent hours on top of hours going through docs and tutorial and I am more confused than before I have started.

I want to build an app that will manipulate Leads, Contacts... etc. in a customer's Dynamics instance.

The app should trigger on Lead creation, and Lead modification, make a call to an external service ( me ) and than update the lead.

Think of a Salesforce app that manipulates Leads and Account objects on insert and update.

Here is what I am confused about:

1. How do I go about having a dynamics instance for testing with Leads and Contacts? seems like when I login into dynamics 3645 all I see is the ability to install apps or to develop a power app. How to test? how to have a sandbox environment?

2. Do I have to use PowerApps and the Common Data Service to be able to access objects in Dynamics?

Thank you!

-Assaf

    Hi Assaf,

It looks like you don't have an CRM subscription yet, or you do not have access. You don't need PowerApps or the CDS for the challenges you are describing.

I'm not sure what do you mean by app in this case, but for sure you can achieve that by writing a plugin which will run on Lead creation and update and will simply call whichever API you want (there are some restrictions but you can always write also your API for that). I'm not sure how did you create your test instance - after creating a trial you should be able to login to your organization (orgname.crmx.dynamics.com) using your trial account. You are probably logging to https://home.dynamics.com, which sometimes does not display your organizations correctly
