How to Make/Edit a Page Break in Report Writer?

(0) ShareShare

Hi everyone,

I'm in Report Writer trying to modify a modified report. I'm hoping to add a page break.

We just had an invoice that was longer than a page for the first time on GP, and the report didn't cut off correctly. What's the best way to fix this issue?

Thanks

Just in case a little more detail is needed: I haven't added any page breaks to the report yet. When i printed the long invoice, the page cut off at the very bottom of my paper, halfway through an item's line comment. The line comment finished on the next page (which was almost completely blank, with no lines, except for the report footer that showed up at the very end of the page, like it's suppose to).

    Hi

On the invoice layouts, there is a page footer and a report footer.  You need to have both on the report for the page breaking to work even remotely correctly.  If you are only using Report Writer reports and not Word Templates, it is more effective.

The Page Footer and Report Footer should be the same size otherwise you will run into issues.

Report Writer will then work pretty automatically to create the break at the right place.  Basically it looks at the total room needed for Header and Footer, and then the records fit in the space in between.

If you don't have a Page Footer, then it sees that there is lots of space available, and will write to the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately with a Page Footer in, what you do get is blank space at the bottom of the first page - but you can then put things in the page footer to take up space e.g. company details.

To turn on the page footer, go to Tools --> Section Options.

See how you get on with that.

    Cheers

    Hi Heather,

First thank you so much for your answer. This really helped me piece together a few issues i was having with Report Writer. However, I'm still in the dark with the Page Footer.

I actually have a Page Footer in this report already ( see screenshot ). You mentioned that the Page and Report footer should be the same size, and my PF is definitely smaller than my RF. So i'm assuming I should just lengthen this area to fix the issue?

    Thanks so much,

    Kimberly

Sorry to keep adding to my original question! I've noticed my horizontal lines are still not expanding to cover the second page of the report. Does anyone have ideas on how to make this work?

    Hi Kimberly,

I'm sorry, maybe it's the picture quality that isn't that good, but I can't see any horizontal lines in your format... I know they are usually very fine and not easy to spot.

Rule is that they should be part of your PH, B or PF section if you want them to be repeated on every page.. RH & RF are only printed once on the first and last page.

    Hi Kimberly

Yes - expand the page footer to be the same size as the report footer.

I am thinking that when you noted horizontal, you might have been meaning vertical.  Vertical lines can be a bit of a pain to get exactly right.  You do need to have them in the footers as well to have them go over to the next page.  Extend them down into the footers too (if you can extend the lines) or add new lines into the footer parts and hopefully that will do it.  You do need to end up playing with the lines to get them exact.  To be honest - I gave up on the vertical lines a long time ago!

    Cheers

My apologies, i did mean the vertical lines! Whoops. Thanks for the advice. Looks like they'll be a challenge!
