The start and end time in production order are getting overlapped if the same work center is used in more than one item of a production order.

Hi All,

I have an issue with the work center in BC.

I a production order if i have items with the same work center the system is not processing in serial for all the items i am getting the same start and the end time.

Work center,

I have configured the work center with a capacity of 1as below.

And the same work center has been added to the Routing and the routing has been added to different items.

but when I plan the production order the system generates the same start and the end date for both the items and they get overlapped.

I have an FG -A and these 2 lines are in the BOM as B and C and both have the same routing.

I want the system to calculate the time in sequence B process and then C to get processed with different start and end times.

Can someone help me with a solution that the process starts once the previous process ends?

    Hi Santarzan,

I can see this is a old post. If your issue is not yet resolved, you may need to setup the capacity constrained resources for the work center before creating the production orders.

Please reply if it works for you or if it doesn't work.

RE: The start and end time in production order are getting overlapped if the same work center is used in more than one item of a production order.

when nav schedules production orders, it looks at the capacity of resource of a work center as an example. The work center could be a machine or a person. If the work center is a person, it makes sense for a person to start 2 jobs at the same time. But a machine needs to process one before start the other. As a result, nav assumes infinite capacity and has limitations in scheduling under complex scenarios.

I'm not sure if the setup is correct, this needs some troubleshooting. If everything works fine with other production orders/ work centers. you need to troubleshoot why nav schedules that way. Most of nav customers use 3rd party scheduling tools due to the gap in scheduling due to such limitation.

with that being said, you could check how the production order is being scheduled. If it is planned forward of both orders, they shouldn't overlap. But if they have the same due date/time and schedule backwards, this could happen cause nav doesn't care how you handle the situation. you could add 1 more resources or outsource cause it just planned as specified.

    Hi Nandhini

    Did you get this solved.

I have the same issue in Dynamics NAV 2018 and wondered if you found a solution.

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply, just wanted to confirm will BC calculate the process in terms of time or it works based on the capacity.

When I create 2 production orders for the same item, the start and the end time are the same in both the production order line.

I thought it will pick the start and the end time once the first production gets completes.

Is this the limitation of BC?

I would recommend opening a support request as this can get complex and it would be difficult to troubleshoot this over the forums.
