Clear out Alerts

I keep receiving alerts - lots of them, every two minutes - even after I deleted the alert I had set up previously.  I have to keep clearing all alerts.  It is slowing down my work.  How do I clear out all old alerts and address this issue?

    have you tried the periodic task "Notification clean up"?

    I went through and manually cleared out all remaining alerts.  But your suggestion probably would have been more efficient.  Thank you.
