D365 WMS - Two Step Picking Process for Sales Orders

Hello, the scenario I am working on is to Pick from Inventory, Put to a Staging location and then Pick from Staging and Put to Truck. I know how to configure the system where it generates one work for the Pick>Put>Pick>Put, what I am wondering is if anyone knows if it is possible to generate two works, One for the Pick to Stage, and the other to Pick from Stage to Truck? Thank you in advance.

I don't think it's possible as you describe. Why do you need two Works?

Hi,

Yes, in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, it is possible to configure a two-step picking process for sales orders that generates two separate work IDs:

Pick to Staging: Configure a Work Template and Location Directive for the first step to pick from inventory and put to a staging location.

Pick from Staging to Truck: Create a second Work Template triggered by a different Work Order Type or Wave Step Code, which handles the pick from staging and put to the final shipping location (e.g., truck).

To achieve this:

Use Wave Templates with multiple steps.

Ensure Work Templates are set up with appropriate query filters and location directives.

You may need to use Containerization or Manual Work Creation to split the work if automatic splitting doesn’t meet your needs.

Which Work Order Type would you suggest? How should I configure the Wave template to add a second Wave Step Code?

Using Containers can add a second Pick/Put Work, but also introduces a packing step in to the process.

How does the Manual Work Creation process work in relation to order picking?

If you set your Work template where the second Pick line has the option "Stop work" selected, it will separate the Pick/put pairs into two distinctive actions. While the Work ID will be the same Work ID, after you complete the first Put to Staging, the flow in the mobile device stops and someone would carry out the pick put from staging to truck at a later time.to

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your reply. The scenario I am looking to confirm if its possible to generate two separate work ids. One work for the pick and put to stage and a separate work for the pick from stage and put to baydoor. Not sure if this is possible, open to creative ideas as well.
