Installing RU11 Microsoft.Crm.LocatorService exception

Hi all,

Today I have a requirement to install RU11 on a Windows XP 32 bit client.

I am getting an error that says:  "The type initializer for Microsoft.Crm.LocatorService threw an exception Cannot load Counter Name data because an invalid index was read from the registry"

I came across a blog post that said to run "lodctr /r" to rebuild performance counters.  Unfortunately the syntax in XP 32bit is different than recent Windows versions.

Regardless, I did a findstr drivername *.ini in my System32 directory.  That generated a list of .ini files that I could then use the lodctr /r command to individually rebuild the performance counters.

After doing so however, I still receive the same error.

Has anyone encountered this and know of anything else I might be able to try?

(Currently the client has RU8 installed - which went in fine).  It should be noted I receive the same error if I try and install RU10.

Please follow these steps. Hope these will be of help for you.

    Go to Start, write ”cmd”.

Right click on cmd.exe and choose ‘Run as administrator’.

Write “lodctr /r” and press enter.

Check if there are providers that are disabled, write “lodctr /q” and press enter

You will then get a long list of providers, make sure that the CRM Client is Enabled

If its not, write “lodctr /e:CRM Client” and press enter.

    Install the Outlook client rollup

    Hi Muhammad,

I don't mean any disrespect, but you obviously came across the same blog I did, and didn't really read my post.

As discussed, the syntax for lodctr on Wndows XP the /R option is completely different.  Though, if you look at my post I managed to use it in what I thought was the correct way by getting a list of .ini files from the findstr drivername *.ini command.  Further, there is no /e option with lodctr in Windows XP.

No I did not go to any blog and perhaps therefore was not able to read our your post. Its the normally general procedure to adopt in all such cases and therefore I suggested this to you. I do not know if its present at any blog too.

    Regards

    Hi Muhmmad,

Are you sure?  It looks like you've copied and pasted directly from here:

    community.dynamics.com/.../microsoft-crm-locatorservice-exception-when-installing-ur10-or-ur11-on-client.aspx

    Your post is verbatim.

    I am 10000 % sure.

Otherwise after reading your response why did I will tell you the same?

It's all good, just obvious that you simply read the part that indicated the issue I was encountering and never read the rest of my original post.  It's pretty clear that you've copied what I found on the blog as well, regardless of whether or not you are 10000% sure.

Regardless I've still got the issue, so I'd rather not argue about things that are not relevant to my problem.

Did you follow these steps as suggested by Microsoft:

Go to the following Microsoft Update catalog website:

    (catalog.update.microsoft.com/.../home.aspx)

In the Search box, type 2739504, and then click Search.

Click Add to add the update to the basket.

    Click Download.

Click Browse, specify the folder to which you want to download the update, and then click OK.

Click Continue, and then click I Accept to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.

When the update is downloaded to the location that you specified, click Close.

Because when you will yourself specify a location by specifying a folder for this it will not show locator service exception.

    Hi All,

I managed to figure it out.

For the most part, I simply followed the steps found here:

    networkadminkb.com/.../how-to-correct-corrupt-performance-counters.aspx

There are some things I did change but they were mostly syntax related.

In that post, it recommends running the EXPAND -r.  For whatever reason it didn't like the -r flag, so I simply expanded and then renamed manually.

Also, the user expands the perfc009.da_ file twice and renames it differently.  I ran the expand on perfc009.da_ as well as perfh009.da_ and renamed them appropriately.

    Cheers,

    Sean.
