Workflow Installation Error -Sharepoint not detected.

Posted on by 400

After successfully installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and completing all the steps outlined, I get the following error when installing workflow for Dynamics GP 2010."Sharepoint not detected". I need to find out what is preventing workflow from detecting sharepoint.

This worked for me as well.  If you remove the Updates folder found in the AdProd>Workflow>x64 the installation may be sucessful it was in my case.

    Hi tcx,

I have the same problem and was that the update folder in the workflow set up has a patch. I resolved the problem deleting this patch.

    Im installed workflow with sp3.

    Sorry for my english,

    Edve

OK.  I am going to abuse your courtesy, so bear with me...   Appreciate any help.

I went back and configured a brand new Windows 2008 Server environment, with SQL Server 2008 R2. Installed Sharepoint Foundation using Stand Alone method (Previously I used the farm method).  This time, I do not even get to the error above.  The Workflow installation yields the folllowing error as soon as it starts: "Please configure the Windows Sharepoint Services Timer Service to run as a domain account."

A couple of things regarding this error:

    1) There is no Windows Sharepoint Services Timer Service. There is a "Sharepoint 2010 Timer" since I installed Sharepoint Foundation.  The former would exist if I were using Windows Sharepoint Services, which is not the case.

    2) I did not get this error before (when I was trying to install on a DC). The only difference is the way I installed the Sharepoint (stand alone vs. farm).  However, the workflow installation manual especifically says (page 47) "You don't need to create these accounts if you're going to use the stand alone installation method for SharePoint Foundation" when discussing the users that need to be created to run Sharepoint services (under the not stand alone method, apparently).  So this implies (to me anyway), that you CAN use the stand alone method, right?

Now, I kept a log of the process I used to get to where I am. You will see there are a few workarounds that are not really documented except in blogs.  I am using Dynamics GP 2010 Spanish LATAM but that is no issue as I haven't even got there yet...  This is a test environment that I am creating, so we can play with it as required.

    > Install Windows 2008 Server (DO NOT INSTALL Domain Server Role)

    > Install all available updates

    > Rename computer (GPDEMO / GPDEMOWG)

    > Install SQL Server 2008 R2

    > Install SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1

    > Install Sharepoint Foundation 2010

     .. Install all prerrequisites

        .. Windows 2008 SP2

.. Application Server Role and IIS Role

        .. HotFix KB976394

        .. HotFix KB974405

        .. Others

     .. Install SPF 2010

    > Update Sharepoint Foundation 2010

    > Run Sharepoint Products Configuration Wizard to upgrade SPF

    > Install Dynamics GP 2010

    > Load GP 2010 Databases

    > Install eConnect from English DVD (avoid services won't start error)

    > Install WebServices from older installer (avoid Win2008 verification error)

.. Remove existing WebServices (Remove) with Config - INCLUDE SQL OBJECTS

.. Reinstall WebServices with Config wizard

     .. Update WS with patch KB254925 (not KB2672784 = won't work = Win2008 verification error)

.. Run config again to upgrade objects

.. Verify Dynamics Security Console runs fine

.. Add users Administrator and WebServicesUser as SuperUsers using Security Console

.. Verify WebServices are running (http://GPDEMO:48620/Dynamics/GP/Service)

    > Install Workflows = Error upon start.

.. Verified services are all running.

.. Tried changing the user of the correct "Timer" Service. No luck.

    Thanks,

    TG

Workflow cannot be installed on a DC period. You must get another server that is not a DC.

Hi there. I am facing the same issue when trying to setup Workflows on a single virtual box with Win 2008 Server, SQL 2008 R2, Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Dynamics GP 2010.  In my case, the Win 2008 is the domain controller.  I have read a lot about Workflows can/cannot be installed on a DC. Any ideas?

No it is not being installed on a Domain Controller...

  • Re: Workflow Installation Error -Sharepoint not detected.

Are you installing on a Domain Controller?
