MSM in managed environment

We have MSM installed in non managed environment. However, to implement IP filtering, there is a requirement to convert the environment to managed environment. Will there be any negative impact if an existing MSM production environment is converted to managed environment? Is there any pre-conversion tasks or checklist available?
I have the same question (0)

    Hi PowerSoumyo,

For the licensing part, you can check this with your partner or Microsoft. The documentation is clear about Dynamics 365 apps where this is included, but there is no specific mention of MSM and managed environments. In my opinion, it should be included, but I don't know the answer myself.

Thanks @André Arnaud de Calavon for your response. We are on MSM premium, do we still need separate power apps license for managed environment?

Thanks @Vahid Ghafarpour for your response. Can you please elaborate on solution restrictions and what is meant by blocking direct edits to unmanaged customizations? In the dev environment, all customizations are in unmanaged solutions - are you saying that wont work with managed environment?

Managed environments enforce stricter controls like IP firewall, solution restrictions, and auditing, potentially blocking direct edits to unmanaged customizations. MSM production data and extensions remain intact, but test IP filtering in audit mode first to avoid access disruptions. Licensing must cover premium features; trial licenses suffice temporarily but limit scale.

    Hi PowerSoumyo,

Functionally, there is no impact. You will gain from more governance features. You will need to check for a possible license impact as managed environments are on a premium tier: Licensing - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn

For converting an unmanaged to a managed environment, there are no pre-requisites. You can switch it by changing the setting on the environment in PPAC.
