Audit trail codes and source documents

Under the financial series there are two audit trail codes that use the source code of GJ. One starts with GLTRX and the other with GLTRN.  How does GP determine which one to use for a certain transactions? They all have a SERIES value of 2 which mean ledger entry. I am curious because I have been trying to do correcting entries and any journal entry that has an audit trail that begins with GLTRX does not allow you to do a correcting entry.

Well thanks to David Musgrave I now know the answere to this question. This guy is the best!

It appears that after these years of installing GP I thought the synchronizing process only used the account framework to synchronize what is in the DYNAMCIS database to the local DYNAMICS.DIC file. It does more than that. When I did the upgrade using the UK media it then added a bunch of multi-lingual records to several tables. Then when I install a new GP client these records forced a change inside the DYNAMCIS.DIC file so now the code was always looking for the GLTRN audit trail code. So the fix was to remove these records from the DYNAMICS and company databases, uninstall GP and then re-install using the US media.

    Richard,

Check out this registry entry.. I think this is what you're looking for :

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Business Solutions\Great Plains\v12.0\1033\DEFAULT\SETUP]

Of course you need to adjust the version path to your current GP major version..

The sub-branch 'Products' from this entry also tells you which modules are installed within GP. Again, here the 1033 suggests this was installed from the US-EN media version.

    HI Richard,

Not sure you'll find this in any table.. since this information needs to be known before you even get to the creation point of the database..

My guess is that this is retained somewhere in the windows system registry.. I recall from many years back (version 7 or 8) that I had to fiddle around with the registry to make a GP client work properly, because the company used to simply copy around one folder that was installed on a reference PC, to all other PCs in the company.. but low & behold, this is not enough.. the setup program writes quite some stuff in the system registry.

There are encrypted keys in the registry under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Dynamics GP\, with 2 values (ProtectedValueA & B), but it's a binary value, so no clue what it could be.

Running a search accross the entire registry with the key word "Microsoft Dynamics" will return several dozen entries, many being associated with cryptic reference id's..  Just 2 examples below from nany more I found in my local system :

    2017_2D00_01_2D00_16_5F00_083200.png

The last example comes from the HKLM Current version hive in the registry and provides some hints about he installed language version of GP (in this case 1033 means us-en) :

Hope this will help you in your quest.

    Good luck.

RE: Audit trail codes and source documents

Is there something in the DYNAMICS database that indicates the country the media was installed using? What had happened was we were called in to perform the GP upgrade. Unbeknowst to us at the time the consultant had used the UK Install media. We performed the upgrade and realized at the end that the wrong install media was used. We then re-installed using the US media but left the databases alone. It appears that something is in the databases indicating to the code that this is a UK install and not a US install. What tables are holding that information?

Under Audit Trails there are two entries for GJ under Financial. One is GLTRX and the other is GLTRN. Somehow they have added Audit Trail codes so they must have added them outside of GP. So in the SY01000 table there are the two with the same sequence number. I am sure this us what is causing this issue.

RE: Audit trail codes and source documents

In Microsoft Dynamics GP > Tools > Setup > Posting > Audit Trail Codes, what is the Origin associated with the Prefixes you are looking for?
In the sample company, GJ Source Document is associated with the GLTRX Prefix and should allow correcting entries.

The "rules" for backing out and/or correcting are detailed in the Help > About This Window Overview Related Items.
