Planning Loads in Outbound Load Planning Workbench

Can someone explain to me what the intended purpose of the Load Planning Workbenches is? How do you plan loads from here when destination information is not available? (address, city, state/province)?

We're struggling with this overall. We had our D365 partner create several custom fields to help see better information for planning, but the fields have slowed the LPW's down considerably. We're told that we created a problem by adding fields.

I'm very interested to learn how other companies plan shipping within the system. Or does everyone use some kind of third-party add-on (if so, what do you use?)

Thank you.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello Peter!
What is the version of your DYnamics 365 SCM?
In up-to-date version new formas for loadplanning workbench are available - 'Outbound load planning workbench' and 'Inbound load planning workbench'

Actually, I didn't use them yet, but based on Microsoft information they are more efficient and moreconvinient:
    "
New load planning workbench pages. To work more efficiently, use the new load planning workbench pages: "Inbound load planning workbench" and "Outbound load planning workbench". The new pages provide significantly improved performance compared the current "Load planning workbench" page, which will be deprecated in 10.0.39."

We're at 10.0.43, and the outbound load planning workbench doesn't have any address fields. My question here is to learn from anyone who uses the system for planning loads to share how they accomplish the task - either within the system or with an external application.

You can use the Outbound Load Planning Workbench and configure Shipment Consolidation Policies to make your planning more efficient  and  Optimized for high volume outbound operations

    Hello Peter,

A load is a group of shipments/orders that are planned to be transported together, often using the same vehicle or route. The load planning workbench is a tool that helps you plan and manage outbound loads by letting you group shipments/orders, create loads, and assign them to transportation and the warehouse.

    Best regards,

I am functional consultant and implemented the Load Planning Workbench (now Outbound LPW) in every project since 2015, in Ax2012 and now D365 F&O.  In Standard, the address fields are (and have been) available; this is how a Planner create loads.   This is Contoso (standard) V10.0.44.  I added the column <Address>, but standard view has State, City, Country/region and Zip/Postal code

Normally, I would recommend against adding new fields to the OLPW.  The OLPW was developed to increase performance; any new field added would slow down this page while the additional information is being collected for display. Its not perfect but its pretty good.  If you want to extend, I suggest you add FactBoxes rather columns to limit effect on the form's performance.

The form intended function is you describe it.  Planner use it to isolate Sales Order lines that can be combined into a Load.  Users can build filters for Sales Order Lines and  Loads to allow them to see only what they want to see.  You want to see the USA, CAN and MEX shipping together to pick and chose the deliveries along a route, you create filter for that. If you have a planner that only does East Coast or West Cost, you build filters for that.

Can be configured so that sale or transfer reservation happen when Load is released.  Work is created for the load and can be split by Shipment (delivery address) so that you can load the last drop first and first drop last.

It's not perfect but its pretty good.  If you have any extension to build suggest you add FactBoxes rather than add columns.
