Identify changed objects in Permission sets

Hi,

With some MS updates, they will update the standard permission set's objects from time to time. If we have copied permission sets for that updated standard permission set with "Notify on changed permission set", once MS has changed it's object, it will notify the users.
My question is, apart from comparing the standard permission set with a copied permission set manually, is there any easy way to identify what objects are changed by MS.

In my scenario, I have some permission sets which I have copied from the standard permission sets, and I have removed some of their objects. Comparing manually will be so time-consuming. Also, we have to do that frequently. Is there any better way to handle this?

Thanks!

Regards,
Asanka

    Hello Asanka,

there’s no built-in way in Business Central to see exactly what Microsoft changed in a standard permission set — the Notify on changed permission set flag only tells you that it changed, not what. If you copy standard permission sets, manual comparison is the only supported option (UI or export), and yes, it’s painful and recurring. Best practice is to stop copying standard permission sets and instead assign your own custom/add-on permission sets on top of Microsoft’s; that way you automatically inherit MS updates and never need to diff again. Microsoft doesn’t provide a change log or diff for permission set updates.

Because Microsoft updates the permission set from time to time, it is recommended to use the exclusion method so that the permission set does not need to be updated with each version.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: Permission Exclusion (Exclude in Permission Set)

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

The simple answer is no. You need to compare it manually. Another way is to not copy or use permission sets which has permissions with Object ID 0. Also it is better practice to include smaller permission sets of standard for example BASICS, FINANCE BASICS etc rather then SUPER, SUPER(DATA), FULL ACCESSS etc.

    Regards,
    Dhiren.
