Changing Lead record header name from Name field to Lead Name field

Posted on by 665

Our organization's sales process is a bit different as the default design of CRM would have it.   For us, a lead isn't a person but a program possibility with a potential customer - individuals with these potential customers come and go (mostly public sector).

Is there a way of changing the lead form so the record title isn't taken from the Name field but from the Lead Name field?  That would be easier for us to follow than the name of a person.

Thanks.

RE: Changing Lead record header name from Name field to Lead Name field

The header field for lead (fullname) gets its value from Lead Name (First Name and Last Name).  You can create a new field lets say - new_fullname.  When the record is saved, you could have a real time workflow that copies the fullname to new_fullname and set the Topic(subject) to fullname field. Once this is done, your lead header will be topic not the FN and LN.   I have done this for one of our projects recently, didnt have to do any coding and RTWF did the job.  I suggested Business Rule above but now that i know that you want to preserve the fullname as well, so Real Time Workflow would be better.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Paul,

Sorry unfortunately  there is no supported way to change the title with different field text. It's by design.

You may know every entity have common field name, I'd which actually the main identity of any entity or lookup record. So similar way here name also showing in the title of any record.

The work around is store the title in name field itself which you want.

I see what you are saying.   I guess I was hoping to retain the Name field as is, for communication and contact purposes, but just not use it as the title of the lead in the system.   Anyway to do thatt?

Its the Name field that is displayed as the header. When you set the first name and last name, fullname gets set by the system.  In your BR, you should copy the value from whichever source field to Name field.

I could use some assistance.   What is the "field" that houses the record name in the header (in this case Joshua Baker)?   I couldn't find it in the list in Business Rules.

    Thanks!

Sounds good!  I like the business rule idea.

    Hi

Yes it's possible to set the header name with lead name using a Business Rule with no code. You can also do the same if you are familiar with JavaScript.  One other option is to create a real-time workflow that copies the value.

Lets say you want to set the Topic to the header name field, you could try something like the following using BR
