Euro Currency Symbol Displays the Letter E Instead of €

We’re currently testing an upgrade from GP2015 to GP2016, and we’ve noticed an issue where the Euro symbol displays the letter ‘E’ instead of the correct symbol ‘€’ on some clients. On these clients, checking the settings via Tools – Setup – System – Currency, the Symbol is an E and if it’s saved at that point (even if no changes are made to the currency setup), the database is updated and the symbol becomes the letter E for all clients.

Prior to someone on an affected client saving the currency record, I have confirmed the value of CRNCYSYM in DYNAMICS.dbo.MC40200 is correct (€). Checking after it’s saved from one of these clients, the CRNCYSYM value does indeed become an ‘E’.

So far it looks like the problem clients are all Windows Server 2012 R2. It looks ok on my Windows 10 laptop and on one of the terminal servers running Windows Server 2012 (not R2).

Has anyone ever encountered an issue like this?

Good Client (the dialogue style is different here as well):

Interestingly enough, this did resolve the issue. On an affected client, I cut and pasted the Euro symbol into the currency setup window and saved the record. It now looks correct on all clients.

I don't fully understand why this fixed it. Looking at the record in the MC40200 table it appears identical, and a ASCII([CRNCYSYM]) check of the column shows it's ASCII character 128 before and after the update.

    Thank you for the suggestion!

Hi - I came across a similar issue recently. Instead of the 'E' being displayed, I was getting 'EUR'.

To correct, I opened a new MS Word document. Inserted the Euro symbol, highlighted it and copied it. I then pasted it into the Tools – Setup – System – Currency window.

The issue seems to be with SQL / Windows text formats. I didn't dig any further as the above resolved. Try it and see.
