Are there web services for human resources and payroll that allow to extend the functionality of GP to external applications? Having GP as the system of record, we want to build an application that retrieves and updates Employee, Benefit, and Deduction data and we want to make sure that we update all the right places if we write back to GP.

Hector,

Dynamics GP Web Services is available for HR and Payroll but not in very wide range. I will recommend to use eConnect it has all most all schema for HR and Payroll. Create Custom Webservice using eConnect.
