How to push Sandbox to Live

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Using CRM 2016 online. I'm almost ready to push my updated sandbox to live. My Office 365 admin menu updated and now I only see 2 tiles, 1 for my current live and 1 for my sandbox.

looks like this now:

crmadmin.jpg

I was trying to find the instances tab, but can't find it anymore. Nothing extra shows when I right click, or click the '...' button.

Instructions I was going to follow:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn896590.aspx

http://dynamicscrmcoe.com/switch-instance-type-crm-online-sandbox-production/

Anyone know where to find it?

Will all my entered opportunities in Sandbox be transferred to Live when it's pushed?

Thanks

Thanks for the direct link to the instance picker. I was looking for that panel in the admin. I eventually found it in the Office 365 admin portal.

    For reference for others:
    Office 365 admin portal
    >left menu at the bottom, Admin centers
    >Dynamics 365

You can change your instance type from sandbox to production and there is no need to do other than making some configuration changes. Check the below post that provides all the steps needed to move your sandbox as production instance.

    Hi Cynthia,

The recommended Release Management process is to create a solution package with all customisations, export from Sandbox and import to Production.  This process only deploys the customisations such as new enities, fields, views, forms, plugins, workflows etc.  This will not migrate any data such as contacts, accounts.

    To migrate data from Sandbox to Production you can use one of many tools or use OOTB Data Import tool.  Some of the tools are;

    Kingswaysoft SSIS - www.kingswaysoft.com/.../ssis-integration-toolkit-for-microsoft-dynamics-crm

    Configuration Migration Tool - technet.microsoft.com/.../dn647421.aspx

What you are trying to do is convert your Sandbox instance to a Production instance, not push customisations and data from Sandbox to your Live CRM instance.  I don't believe this is what you are trying to achieve.  Let me explain.

Let's say you have licences for 1 x Sandbox instance and 2 x Production instances.  Currently, you are using 1 x Sandbox instance and 1 x Production instance.  Since you have an additional Production instance licence, you can convert your Sandbox instance to a Production instance.  After this process, you'll have 2 x Production instances and 0 x Sandbox instances.  The "LIVE CRM" instance is unchanged.

You can navigate to the Dynamics 365 Administration Center via Office 365 Admin Portal or directly via below link.

    port.crm6.dynamics.com/.../InstancePicker.aspx

Please note: you'll have to change crm6 with the number relevant to your data center.  Here's the full list of data centers and the crm number associated to it.

    North America – crm

    South America – crm2

    Canada – crm3

    EMEA – crm4

    APAC – crm5

    Australia – crm6

    Japan – crm7

    India – crm8

    North America 2-for Government – crm9

Hi Cynthia, there is no feature to push anything from a sandbox to a production instance. You need to manually deploy your system configuration and customisations from your sandbox instance to production, and manually migrate any data that you want migrated.

There are various tools to help: the Adxstudio ALM toolkit and the Dynamics 365 Package Deployer (msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn688182.aspx).
