Error when resetting Production Order from Started to Released

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a problem when trying to reset a production order from Started back to Released in D365FO. When I hit Production → Reset status, it fails and I get these messages:

Item number: Item-001
Returned quantity exceeds the updated physical quantity.
Update has been canceled.

In the message details, it points to both the Report as finished journal and the Picking list journal.
One of the component lines seems to be causing the issue, but I can’t tell what exactly is wrong.
Everything shows as already posted, and there are no open picking list journals or weird adjustments that I can see.

Has anyone seen this before? Any tips on how to track down what quantity mismatch is blocking the reset?

Would appreciate any ideas—thanks!

    Hi,

Are u using WMS app for releasing the prduction order? If Yes , then you have to cancel the work order before resetting the status of the production order.
if No, then you have to chk if pick journal got posted at the start. You have to reverse those entries.

    hope this helps.

    Hello Michael,

Is the picking list already posted? If so, can you undo the posting of the picking list and try it again?

    Best regards,

    Hi Michael,

As you mentioned, the Report as Finished journal has also been posted. This means the production quantity associated with that journal has already been consumed or moved from the location where it was placed after production. As a result, there is not enough quantity available to reverse the Report as Finished journal entry. Therefore, please arrange the sufficient quantity in the same location and then reset the production order status.

    Cheers,
    Burhan

    Hi Michael

    Good day,

As you mentioned in your question, that RAF journal is also posted. Therefore, you must check whether the RAF quantity is further used in any other transaction May be you have done RAF put away work or transferred to other warehouse. Check this. D365FO is not able to find exact number of quantity and that could be main reason of getting this error.

Let me know your findings based on my comment, I will help you accordingly.

    Thank you,
    Vandan
