Profile (Roles) Customization - Make Field Required

My customer has a need to make certain fields required on some of the purchasing screens.  To that end, I've been reviewing the profile customization options and only see options to hide, move, or lock a field?  Is there a way to make a field required?  Please advise.  Look forward to a reply.

    Its not possible to do out of the box. It can only be done by getting a developer to customize the system.
