Journal - posting preview says out of balance but it s not

The journal balance is nil.  but when I perform a post or post preview it says it is out by one entry £1236.95.  Removing that entry creates an unbalanced journal. including it creates the error on post.  Copy to Journal lines is activated so is copy VAt lines.

any ideas folks!!

The column "Bal. Account No." is empty it should have a value e.g. Bank Account No.

Journals in BC are balanced by the posting date and document number. I'd first check to see if there are different document no.s in that batch.

The error is also saying it's out of balance because of a global dimension. This usually signifies you may have a customization or extension such as a multi-entity solution in your environment. Some apps make it so Business Central needs to have entries posted to balance on global dimension 1. I'd check to see if you have any apps installed.

You can quickly check to see if you have an app installed by inspecting that page (Alt+Ctrl+F1) and then looking at the extensions tab to see if there is an app in the system from an ISV (Central Path, Binary Streams, your partner etc.)

If you still have issues, when in doubt just copy that journal and paste it into a new batch and try again. There might even be some validation issues.

    Hello,
The journal is balanced overall, so the problem is probably on the dimension side, not the total amount. The message says document T000011 is out of balance for Global Dimension 1 = US_OHIO, so usually that means one of the lines has a different dimension value or maybe no dimension at all.

I would filter the journal on document T000011 and check the Global Dimension 1 column line by line. Most of the time there is one entry with the wrong dimension or a missing balancing line.

I have seen this before when lines were imported from Excel and one row missed the dimension value.
I would fix the dimensions on the lines instead of disabling the balance control.

You can try enabling the following option to see the errors in real time.
PS: Dynamics 365 Business Central: Balance by document number and document type in the general journal

    Thanks.

    Hello,
The key clue is in the error: “out of balance … for Global Dimension 1 = US_OHIO” — so the full journal may show Balance = 0.00, but Business Central is also checking that the posting balances inside each dimension value, and one dimension bucket is out by £1,236.95. In plain terms, one side of that £1,236.95 line probably has US_OHIO, while the other side is blank or has a different Global Dimension 1 value, often caused by balancing account lines, VAT lines, or copied journal/VAT setup not carrying the same dimensions. Don’t remove the line; instead filter the journal on Legal Entity / Global Dimension 1 = US_OHIO, show the hidden dimension columns / use Line > Dimensions, and check both the main account and balancing account side for that entry. I’d especially check the VAT-generated lines because you mentioned Copy VAT Setup to Jnl. Lines; Microsoft notes VAT can be calculated separately for main and balancing accounts, so dimensions/VAT setup can make the visible journal total look fine while the dimension-level posting is not.
