Multi Day bookings on schedule board

Hi all,

I have a requirement to create bookings that span multiple days (a week per booking normally - similar to booking a hotel room for multiple nights), but I am having some difficulty getting it to work with the Schedule Board. When i book the work order via the "Book" button (schedule assistant) or through the schedule board interface, the bookings are being created as 1 per day (so 7 bookings total, each spanning 24 hours) instead of the full block of seven days.

Has anyone found a setting that allows bookings to span multiple days cleanly? I have checked the scheduling settings with no luck.

Otherwise I will have to encourage the users to use manual bookings and only check the schedule board for availability, which seems to reduce the benefits of using FSA.

Any ideas on how to get this working are much appreciated.

Update: This behavior seems to have been introduced in a Field Service update - V8.2 instances with Field Service V6.2.2 works fine and produces the desired one booking output. V9.0.1 instance with Field Service V7.4.0 splits multiday bookings into one booking per day

    Hi Shahbaaz Ansari,

The link you have provided seems to be the opposite problem to mine. They would like to book 8 hours a day automatically split into single day bookings, but I need to book one booking of 72 continuous hours or more. For example, a continuous booking from 8am on a Monday to 9pm on a Wednesday. When I try to do this on the schedule board, it creates a booking for Monday, a booking for Tuesday and a booking for Wednesday instead of one continuous single booking.

Is that due to your resources work hours in Resources?

    Hi Antc,

thanks for the suggestion, but working hours for all resources are set to the same for both the V8.2 instance and the V9.0 instance. All are set to 24 hour work day:

This is fine in the V8.2 instance - it creates one booking that spans multiple days, but in V9.0 it creates one booking per working hours day (if i change it to 9am-9am cross day i still get bookings for single days but the schedule board automatically sets the "day" booking to 9-9 instead of midnight to midnight).

Although it obviously should is your resource calendar is showing All day.

What about Customer Service Calendar under Service Management?

    Works here V 9

The Resource Work Hours is definitely showing up as all day (24 hours).

I'm able to create a booking manually that spans multiple days like your example shows, but when i use the schedule board drag and drop method i get the following:

One work order/work order requirement of 7 days results in the 7 bookings.

It may be the "distribute evenly" setting, under booking summary in 8.2 can't look at the moment in 9.

Hi Jody, did you ever resolve this issue?

I logged a call with Microsoft Support and did some testing. It turns out the behavior is caused by using the Day, Week or Month Views of the scheduler.

If you book a multiday booking using the hours view it works perfectly, but if you swap to any other view it splits into into 24 hour blocks depending on your timezone.

Unfortunately they've decided that this is a "feature" and is working as intended. They have said they'll consider additional configuration in a future update but i suspect that it will be quite low on the priority list.

For those of us who need to book appointments of a week or more at a time I'm afraid we will need to continue to book things manually using the scheduler only as a reference, or consider alternative solutions to the built in scheduler.

I found out that in hourly view you could change to show hours to only 1 hour by day. and increase the number of days. then you get at a view with 7 days, which looks not so bad (no hour aggregation) I think this is at least a little workaround.

For me the problem is still that in then the hourly view is limited to 7 days! We need much more!

I have found / created the following MS Ideas, please vote for it, to increase the priority:
