Dynamics App for Outlook flickers in OWA and set Regarding is impossible

Hi there,

Some of my users experience a flickering App for Outlook screen when they want to 'Set Regarding' on an appointment (connecting to a project or salesopportunity in Dynamics). The app/pane opens, you can scroll through the menu and pick an item, then pick the record you want to track but then the 'Dynamics 365 pane' starts to flicker and there is no way you can click on 'set regarding'.

One of them told me today that it stopped flickering upon changing the screensize (browser from full screen to smaller).

I have also noticed that in some cases the Dynamics 365 pane appears double on the screen?

Although I tried to exclude certain circumstances I cannot put my finger on it:

I cannot reproduce the issue (tried 2 different accounts)

It happens on windows and mac machines

and it looks like it's only happening in OWA

Last week clearing cache didn't solve the issue, using another browser did, but not this week...

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!
Doesjka

Good morning, afternoon, or evening :) depending on your location!
    Hope you are well today.

    Possible Causes:
    1. Browser Compatibility:
      • The issue might be related to browser-specific rendering problems in OWA. While switching browsers temporarily resolved the issue, it could indicate inconsistencies in how the app interacts with certain browsers.
    2. Screen Resolution and Scaling:
      • The flickering stopping when resizing the browser window suggests that screen resolution or scaling settings might be affecting the app's rendering.
    3. Duplicate Pane Rendering:
      • The double-pane issue could be caused by a glitch in the app's initialization process, leading to multiple instances of the Dynamics pane being rendered.
    4. Cache and Cookies:
      • While clearing the cache didn’t resolve the issue last week, residual data or corrupted cookies might still be contributing to the problem.
    5. Add-In Updates or Configuration:
      • The Dynamics App for Outlook might require an update or reconfiguration to address compatibility issues with OWA.
    6. Network or Latency Issues:
      • High latency or intermittent network issues could cause the app to behave unpredictably, including flickering or failing to load properly.
     Steps to Resolve:
    1. Verify Browser Compatibility:
    2. Adjust Screen Resolution and Scaling:
      • Test the app on different screen resolutions and scaling settings to identify if specific configurations trigger the flickering.
    3. Clear Cache and Cookies:
      • Clear the browser’s cache and cookies again, ensuring all residual data is removed. Restart the browser afterward.
    4. Update the Dynamics App for Outlook:
      • Check for updates to the Dynamics App for Outlook in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and ensure the latest version is deployed.
    5. Reinstall the Add-In:
      • Remove and reinstall the Dynamics App for Outlook for affected users to reset the configuration.
    6. Test Network Stability:
      • Verify the network connection for affected users and test the app on a stable network to rule out latency issues.
    7. Enable Debugging:
      • Use the browser’s developer tools (F12) to capture logs during the flickering. Look for errors or warnings that might indicate the root cause.
    8. Contact Microsoft Support:
      • If the issue persists, consider raising a support ticket with Microsoft. Provide them with detailed logs and screenshots to assist with troubleshooting.

    Hope this helps!

    Hey Doesjka,

Did you happen to find a solution to this issue? I also have users experiencing this when they try to link an email to an opportunity using the CRM plugin.
It does seem to be related to resolution as the plugin would flicker on a smaller size laptop screen with the reccomended 150% scale. When displayed on a monitor with a higher resolution the issue isn't present.

    Hi RM,

No permanent solution found yet, but as you write it does seem to be related to the resolution because if the users play with the screensize it does stop. It appears to happen when the Dynamics pane does not fit on the screen and you would have to scroll down. When the pane fits the screen it does not.

Something must have changed somewhere because this never happend before.
It doesn't affect me, but then I work on 100% scale not on 150% scale.

    Kind regards,
    Doesjka
