BC has always had additional text fields such as Name 2 and No 2 on various setup and document screens.  With V27, we are noticing that there are two Name 2 fields, 2 No 2 fields, etc...

1. Any thoughts on why MS created a second field with the same name?
2. We also noticed that of these fields is read only why the other is editable.  Any thoughts on the logic there?
3. In some cases, we have encountered where both Name 2 fields on order documents are read only.   Is there a configuration for this?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

I checked latest version of 27.x and I could not find any such duplicate fields in the tables. I checked Customer for Name 2, Item for No. 2, even Sales and Purchase orders. There is only single fields and not duplicates.

I think in your case your user must have done some personalization or Profile customization, in addition to that you must have made the field visible/editable through an extension. In this case system may show on the page 2 fields of Name 2 or No. 2 etc.

    Try following to solve.
1- Clear Personalization and customization done specifically for the user or profile(Role). Go to User setting and clear personalization. If you find customization as well go to profile(Role) of the user and clear customization.

2 - If you have done any AL Customization and it is not intended, find and remove those extensions. If its intended keep it.

    Refresh and verify.

See where it suggests to insert them, chances are its name 2 for different data sets and just poor labelling

This seems like a visual bug or bug in your environment. I checked a couple tables in my 27.x environment. I would recommend going to the admin center and refreshing that environment. If you still see two fields I would use the page inspection tool to see if there are two identical fields in that table in the database. If there is just one field then you may need to just reset the personalization for users' profiles/roles.

This is just for you to enter supplementary information. For example, if we have a customer, enter the local language for Name1 and English for Name2. This makes it easier to manage.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    Hello,

In short: in v27 you’re not seeing Microsoft duplicate the same physical field, you’re seeing two different fields (often from different tables like Sell-to/Buy-from vs Bill-to/Pay-to or document header vs related master record) that share the same caption such as “Name 2” or “No. 2”; one is typically the document’s stored snapshot (editable when Status = Open), while the other is a display/reference field coming from a related record (read-only by design), and if both are read-only it’s almost always due to document state (Released, Pending Approval, etc.) or permissions—not a specific “Name 2” configuration; use Page Inspection (Ctrl+Alt+F1) to confirm the exact table/field behind each one and you’ll immediately see why their behavior differs.

Can you open page inspection and show this fields along with details of Table and Page number?

Also specify your exact Business Central version and localization.

That will be helpful to understand the fields and its use to help you explain the same.

    Regards,
    Dhiren.
