Great Plains - Create Company - Edit Database Location

We are currently running Great Plains Dynamics v10. I need to create a new company and have been trying to do this. However when I get to the Database Setup page, it will not allow me to edit the location of the database or log file.

I am running the GP Utilities using administrator and on a client desktop. I have tried using \\ paths to the server, mapping a drive and other things but nothing seems to work.

Do I create it where it wants and then move the database to the server? From everything I've seen online, everyone has the option to alter the path.

Any help would be great!

Thank you Matt!  That was it.  I kept trying to adjust the path to put the databases where I wanted them and I did not realize that it was already doing that for me.

I ran thru it this morning without changing the paths and it created the new company/database perfectly!

    thanks again!

Matt is exactly right. The paths shown are on the SQL server itself, regardless of the client. Mapped drives will not work. I've never tried it with UNC paths, but depending on SQL version it might not like that.

I just ran through a test on a test client I have and a test db server.  I ran Utilities on the test client that does not have SQL on it.  When it got to where it askes for the path it defaulted to the program files folder on the Test SQL box.  I just changed it to D:\SQLDATA and E:\SQLLOGS and clicked next.  I then clicked Finish and it created those DB files on the test SQL box.

Are you not able to just overrwite it with the drive and path you want?  Since you are connecting to the SQL server it is looking for the path there, not on the client server.

I am able to map the drive location, create/delete folders or files without issue.

I am the network admin and I do not want to have to install GP Utilities on my server if at all possible.

    Hi Ksterley,

In Windows Explorer, are you able to create a mapped drive to this path?

The errors you are receiving are all indicators of network permission problems.  It is possible that your network login does not have access to the path as well.  Consult your Network/System Admin regarding this.

I still recommend running GP Utilities directly on the GP server to avoid problems like this.

Yes - the client can access the path both using a mapped drive and the UNC path.

If I map a drive letter to the location I need, I get this error.

If I click Yes and continue I see this error.

    Then this error.

Then a dialog that tells me it failed.

I've been thru this a few times and the results are the same each time.

    Hi Ksterley,

Does the client desktop you're using have access to the paths you're trying to use?

It would be best to run GP Utilities directly on the server where GP is installed.

Correct - They are grey and when you click on them nothing occurs.

So is nothing happening if you click on the Folder icon to the right-hand side of the Location path?
