You can’t print packing slips for historical orders and invoices.  <<<From GP Help....is this really true? Is there any kind or work around? I have a customer requesting a copy of their packing list!

Thanks,

 Shellie Magers

    Shellie,

This is true if you are using out-of-the-box GP reports.  There is no historical Packing Slip report.  (For what it's worth, we have done hundreds of custom reports and have never been asked for a historical Packing Slip.)

In most cases the Packing slip is really the same as an Invoice once posted.  If that's not good enough for your customer and you absolutely need to provide this, then you may need to create a custom report.

Actually the Packing List is not the same as an invoice, especially when exporting and the expected documents by customs authorities everywhere require a packing list. This is a real short coming of GP. We also have need from time to time to re-print an "original" packing list after an invoice has been printed in order to provide documentation to a bank or some other official. We shouldn't have to write a custom report to do it. The fact that a packing list does not include line prices is a critical element in export documentation and is why an invoice cannot be used in its place.

I agree with Victoria, if you wanted to, you could create a custom "historical" packing slip using SRS and then you would have it when your customers (or customs) requests it.

It's difficult to get all of the business logic for every single company rolled into one piece of software, that's why Microsoft allows for customizations and add-on products.

Thanks Aaron, I don't want to beat the proverbial dead horse, but in my opinion this functionality should be included in the basic package. But "my opinion" doesn't make the decisions for what to include or not. The system does seem to allow for re-printing of Historical SOP documents. However when you select the Pack List -- nothing happens, no error, no message, nothing. So, yes I can have a custom report written -- but this type of basic reporting is included automatically with inexpensive products like Peachtree and Quick Books and in "my opinion" it also should be in GP.  So with that -- I'll agree to disagree with you and Victoria and move on. Thanks again for the comment.  Steve
