Cancelled workflow reverts back all previous steps in the workflow

Hi Guys,

My client uses Dynamics 365 and they would like to make the lead qualification process a bit conditional, i.e. the lead will be converted to account and opprotunity only if the email the industry field has a value equal "not for profit". If the condition is not satisfied then I want the lead to stay open and I need an email activity be created to notify the manager to approve lead conversion even if certain conditions are not met.

As always, I would like to do this with no coding (no plugin or custom WF etc).
I did some research in CRM forums and the option given was to use realtime workflow and stop the workflow with status "Canceled" if the the abovementioned condition is not met. In my realtime WF, I also try to create the email activity before the "stop workflow" step. But, becasue the workflow is stopped with status "Cancelled" (versus "success"), my email activity is not trigerred. :(

Anyone has any idea how to fix this or maybe some other approach to this problem?

Thanks

    Hello,

You have the issue because you set the workflow in real time.

When a workflow is canceled in realtime as you said, it's rolling back the updates/creations which were done before the cancelling of the workflow.

If you switch it to background workflow, the email created will remain even if the workflow is then cancelled.

    Regards,

    Clément

    Hi,

Did you try to create 2 separate workflow one which sends the email and other which stop the workflow? I think this should work in your scenario.

    Hope this helps.

I have to have it as realtime because I want to stop the lead conversion process.

    Hi Mohammad,

If you don't want to write the code, The only way came across in my mind is:

Add a custom Qualify button on the Lead form. And manage hide/show of OOB and Custom Qualify button based on the condition you have. Like- industry field has a value equal "not for profit".

(Can achieve it through Ribbon Workbench)

If condition match, OOB Qualify button will be visible and work the functionality as is else custom button would be visible.

On click of Custom button, Trigger a Async Workflow which will create an Email Activity or Whatever action you want to perform.(Can achive it through Ribbon Workbench)

    Refer: ribbonworkbench.uservoice.com/.../132235-create-a-workflow-short-cut-ribbon-button-no-code

    Hope it helps.

Mark this an answer. If it helps

What is the issue with this approach? Except that, I don't think there is any way except writing the code for sure.
