Hi everyone,
I am testing Master planning behavior for dimension-based configured products in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.
The product master has one BOM and BOM version that include all possible component items. Configuration groups and configuration rules have been properly defined inside the BOM, so only specific components should apply depending on the selected configuration.
When I create a sales order for the configured product and expand the BOM, the system correctly shows only the components valid for that configuration.
When I generate a production order directly from the sales order, the production BOM also includes only those valid components, as expected.
However, when I run Master planning (MRP), the system plans requirements for all components in the BOM, ignoring the configuration rules defined for the dimension-based model.
Could please confirm whether Master planning is designed to always use the full BOM version for dimension-based products (regardless of configuration rules) and explain why this behavior differs from BOM expansion and production order creation?
Also, is there any recommended setup or workaround that would allow Master planning to plan only for the components assigned to a specific configuration?
Environment details:
Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management version: 10.0.44
Product master type: Dimension-based configuration
Total components in BOM: 16
Components assigned to configuration: 9
Thank you in advance for your insights and clarification.
