Second Business Unit showing all records of First Business Unit

I work for a school and we are using the education accelerator. We are in the process of using the sales hub for some donor development, but I want to keep that separate from our education data. I created a second business unit thinking that would keep the data separate, but I can see leads and contacts from the education accelerator in there. I don't mind the contacts so much, but I don't want to see the school leads in my lead area and vice versa. How can I set this up so each app does not see the other apps data? Shouldn't that be the job of the business unit?

    Hi Partner,
    Are you the administrator? If so, it's normal for you to be able to see all the data.
    If you need to segregate data by BU, it's not enough to set up BU alone, but also yea in combination with security roles and users.
    As described in the documentation below:
    Users can securely access data in their own business unit, but they can’t access data in other business units unless they are assigned a security role from that business unit.
    Business units, security roles, and users are linked together in a way that conforms to the role-based security model.
    Use business units together with security roles to control data access so people see just the information they need to do their jobs.
