Inventory Receiving - Auto Reservice to On Order Sales Orders

We seem to have a bit of a mystery on how or what is automatically reserving available inventory quantities shortly after receiving into stock.

a.  Create sales order where there is not enough inventory available to reserve all that is on the sales order.
b.  Procurement team sees the demand request and orders more inventory from the vendor
c.  Inventory comes in and is received into stock.
d.  Shortly afterwards the recently received inventory that is available will automatically get reserved to the open sales order(s).  If there is more than one open sales order, the process seems to go oldest order to newest.

We have no idea what parameter or process could be auto reserving to the open sales orders.

Notes:

We are running D365 F&SC
We do use Warehouse Management (WMS for PO Receiving and Order Fulfillment)
We have looked for Batch jobs that may appear to be Auto Reserving but don't find any that seem to fit the description
We have looked at system parameters.
We have two other D365 Environments (UT-Testing, Stage) which are clones of Production but we can not replicate this auto reserving in either of the other environments.
We have asked a more than once to our support resources but can not seem to figure it out.

    Hi,

Assuming you have enabled auto reservation in AR parameter or Item model group.

There is an option in Inventory management parameter which control this-

When enabled, this option allows automatic reservation of inventory that is on-order (i.e., expected but not yet physically received).

You create a sales order for 100 units of Item A, but you don’t have any physical stock. However, you do have a purchase order created for 100 units that are expected in 5 days.

    • If “Reserve ordered items” = Yes:

D365 will automatically reserve the 100 units from the purchase order (on-order inventory) for the sales order.

    • If “Reserve ordered items” = No

D365 will not allow reservation from on-order stock. You’ll have to wait until the inventory is physically received and updated.

Thank you for this information.  This option is not turned on for us (but we may test it out).

Since I posted this question we have figured out what was causing the sales orders to have inventory quantities be reserved through out the day.  We happened to have an ISV process being run as a Batch Job (every 30 minutes) to Reprice Orders (ISV Option).  I am assuming that because the process was going through all open sales order lines and updating with new pricing that it was also triggering a line update which caused the line to reserve available inventory.  An unexpected side impact from the batch job.

I don't know how to close this post but it can be closed.

    Thank you,
