Using the Advanced Sales Tax Calculation

We treat freight as a separate line item on a SOP invoice.  The freight item is setup with the tax option 'Base on Customers'.  However there are a few states where the freight is always exempt from sales tax if it is listed separately, even though the product may be taxable.  Is there a way to handle this situation in GP without using an outside sales tax product?

    Hi Dan,

    Have you thought about doing this:

    1. Create a new tax detail for each municipality that collects taxes on freight.

    2. Create a tax schedule named FREIGHT that contains all of those details.

    3. On the item card of the freight item(s), mark the item as Taxable and assign the FREIGHT tax schedule to it.

    4. For those customers who are in locations subject to tax on FREIGHT, include the appropriate freight tax detail in their tax schedule.

    5. When that customer has the FREIGHT item on their invoice, tax will be calculated on that item. The system will match the details on the customer’s tax schedule against the tax schedule applied to freight and find a match.
