Multiples PO line comment

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi everyone,

I need help on customizing the Purchase Order Blank Form - to be able to print the PO line comment in a text box format, which can be auto expandable and not designing in extracting line by line.

The PO format has to be graphical format as we need different font size in the PO.

Any idea how can i do that?

Thank you and best regards,

    Re: Multiples PO line comment

This is what I have found from my experience.  The PO Line comments are a calculated field that works like an Array.  I'm pretty sure there is Comment 1, 2 and 3 on the default graphical form.  Each one of those comments takes the next 50 characters from the comment field.  I think I had the same issue and decided against trying to get too crazy with customizations.  I thought it would require some VBA to make that box auto-expand.  My client needed to enter lots of comments (instructions) for each line, but we decided that 150 characters (3 arrays of 50) were sufficient.  So I basically had them enter the comment with a max of 3 lines and (I know this is pathetic, but they like it), but I have them hold up a little piece of paper to the screen that is 50 characters wide so they know when to start the new line.

Anyway, that's my experience.  This was GP 10 as well.  Good luck and let us know if you have another solution.

    Hi,

Also, in the Purchase Line Comment table attached to the PO report there is a field called 'Comment Text' Drag this on to the report and place in the Line segment of the report. This will print whatever text is entered in the comment.

Re: Re: Re: Multiples PO line comment

In GP 10, I have two reports for PO. One is GP10 original PO report, the other one is a customized PO report. Anyone know, in the print window, how do i make the customized one as default in the drop down list?

    Thanks

Re: Re: Re: Re: Multiples PO line comment

    Hi, some questions...

    • Is the customised PO report a modified version of the original GP PO report?
    • If so, whether or not GP prints the original or the modified version depends on your security settings.

Also, you can set the default PO report in the Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Setup >> Purchasing >> Purchase Order Processing. However this is just the standard PO reports (whether it prints the original or modified version again depends on your security settings).

Or...did you create a new report from scratch in the report writer...that looks at the PO work tables....that you want to print instead of the standard PO reports in GP? If so, I odn't think there is a way in standard GP to achieve this. Maybe some one has suggestions as to how this could be achieved by development?

Hi, yes, it is a modified version of the original GP PO report. by changing the security settings, it works.

    Thanks a lot.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Multiples PO line comment

    Ian,

I was trying to get this yesterday as a test to replace the way I have (see above).  When you say put it in the "Line" section, my 4 comments per line (above I thought it was 3) were in the B1, B2, B3, B4  (if I remember correctly).  Would you say that I could remove those sections and just expand the B1 section to put that note field?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Multiples PO line comment

    Hi,

Rather than deleting the sections, I would mark any field in these sections as 'Invisible' - (double click the field to open the field properties window and you will see a drop down list where you can select 'Invisible').

Then, you can expand the section that contains the item number field, and drag the 'Comment Text' field in here under the existing fields.

Then print a PO to see how it looks and adjust as required.

I don't like deleting sections in case there are some fields that other sections are dependent on...in fact I try and never delete fields from a standard report. I just make them invisible and move them off the printable area.

     Best regards,

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Multiples PO line comment

Thanks, this is where I would almost rather explore some sort of VBA option because by expanding and bringing this huge comment field into the Line section, it seems like it will be spaced this way even on POs that don't require comments.  Then I will have huge gaps between the line items if there is no comment.

That's why I like the standard functionality with the 4 comment lines.  Because if they don't have data, they don't print and it just moves to the next line.

Even if I made a caculated field out of the Note Text field, I have already expanded that line section in the repost so it seems like that space is going to be there regardless.

Thanks for the info.  I guess I can start playing with it to figure out the best way.
