Item Site Bin per customer

Hello,

Is it possible to set a default site - bin of inventory items for a customer? For example, when selling certain items to a customer, it will always pull from a specific site - bin. However, for other customers, it can pull the same items from different site -bin. How can we set this per customer?

Thanks,

    Thanks Harry,

That's what it sounded like to me - a separate site for each customer that needed to get their stuff from a specific bin at that site. I was hoping there was a setup in there somewhere that I could assign a specific bin to a customer and everything still come from the main warehouse. Creating a different site and having to transfer inventory to that site would be a painful  endeavor. They almost have it available, but not quite yet. Bravo for the suggestion, you're a rock star.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Leslie,

It is possible to set a default Site per customer. This value is set on the Customer Card under their Default Ship To Address ID in the Site field; however, there is only one Sales Order Fulfillment Default per Site ID.

This default Bin is assigned using the Site Default Bins window, accessed by clicking on the Bins Button on the Site Maintenance window.

Since there is only one default bin for Sales Order Fulfillment, you would need to set a site per customer. So, if you set up Site 1 with Bin 1 and Bin 2, you could only default one or the other of these bins as the default Sales Order Fulfillment Bin for a particular site (out of the box).

I could imagine hanging a default Bin field off the Ship To Address window for a customer, and doing some customization work to prompt fulfillment from a particular Bin for the customer to deliver the solution as you described.

    Hi Harry,

This is very intriguing. Does this mean you need to create a site for each customer who's stuff needs to be pulled from a specific site/bin? Example, Cust 1 uses Bin 1, Cust 2 uses Bin 2, both bins are located in the NORTH warehouse.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

RE: Item Site Bin per customer

    Jay,

In my opinion - yes, you need to set a default site for all customer Ship To address records. Here's why...

Site selection is hierarchical (with a qualification). If you select a default site at the Sales Order Processing Setup Level, then that site will be selected by default (when the SOP Transaction Entry window is opened).

Once the default site is selected from Sales Order Processing Setup it will remain the default site until overridden by a Site being assigned to a Customer's default Ship To Address record.

    For Example:

Sales Order Processing Default Site = Warehouse

Customer1 Ship To Address Site = 'BLANK' (not set)

Customer2 Ship To Address  Site = North

Customer3 Ship To Address Site = 'BLANK'

If you configure GP in this way, when Customer1 has no default site assigned to their Ship To Address, then the default site from Sales Order Processing Setup will remain (Warehouse). When you complete and save the first order and begin to enter a second order, the default Site ID will remain the same (Warehouse).

When you select Customer2, then the Default Site ID will change to North. As with the first order, when you save and begin entry the Default Site ID will still be North.

Here is where problems can arise. The default Site ID will remain the North and will not be changed by the Sales Order Processing Setup option to Warehouse!!!

So, in order to make sure you get the generic default site (Warehouse) to default for customers that don't require specific sites, you would need to set the generic site (Warehouse) as the default for the Ship To records for all Customers, which don't require a specific Site.

    Thanks for the reply.

If I make this setup, does this mean that I will need to assign a default site - bin for "all" customers? I only need to make this default site - bin assignment per customer for a portion of my customers, All other customers will pull from a default site or a different site depending on the item.

RE: Item Site Bin per customer

    Jay -

This can be set by customer.  First, if you have a default site set in Sales Order Processing Setup, then you will need to remove the setting.

Once this is done, you need to set default bins for your customer specific site in inventory in Inventory >> Cards >> Site  - Bins Button. You'll need to set your default bin in the Sales Order Fulfillment field.

Once you have the default bin for Sales Order Fulfillment field configured correctly for your customer specific site, then you need to set the default customer site in Sales >> Cards >> Customers - Default Site on Ship To Address

Once you have made these changes, when you select the customer on the order you will notice the default Site ID in the Order Header will be set to the Site ID you assigned to the Ship To Address record on the Customer Card. From there, the default bin will be assigned from the Bins location you set in the Customer Site record you configured in Inventory Cards Site.

There are several other considerations to keep inventory flowing to the correct sites for these customers, and this assumes a pretty straight forward fulfillment process with no real deviation from one item to the next.
