Item Number Series: How to get different number for items based on different vendors automatically? Also, how can I enter the 300 vendors easily.

We want to allow sales staff to enter items for special orders where they create an item number that is based on 4-digit code vendor code with a "dash" separater and item number automatically increments. An example would be 1234-1000601.

There are several hundred vendors. Solution will need to allow us to do this easily and quickly.

    You could setup item templates which can have a specific number series assigned to them. If you have one per vendor then the prefix can be built in. usedynamics.com/.../

    Item templates when active will pop up as a selection list when a user chooses “new”

    Entering 300 vendors can be done with the “Edit in Excel” feature. Or use configuration packages. docs.microsoft.com/.../admin-how-to-prepare-a-configuration-package

    And Rapidstart Services:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../admin-set-up-a-company-with-rapidstart

    Both require a bit of setup, so maybe that is not worth it, depending on how often you need to do this. Also some times it is easier to just set aside 4 hours of a day to just to things manually.
