[Portal] Combining entity permissions

  • I have a custom entity 'X'
  • Entity X has a M:M relationship to account entity
  • I have a WebRole "Show Related X records"

GOAL

I as a portal user should be able to see a entity X record in a lookup only if both conditions below are true:

  1. My parent account is connected to Entity X record.
  2. I as a contact have the WebRole "Show Related X records" assigned to me.

Is this possible with entity permissions only? I would essentially be using two entity permissions, one to check if my parent account is related to a entity X record, and another one connected to my web role.

    Yes, this is exactly what entity permissions are designed for - they allow you to secure records based on how they are related to the logged in contact.

    In your case, you only need a single entity permission, because the "scope" concept includes account scope:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../assign-entity-permissions

    So create an entity permission with account scope and select the relationship between account and Entity X.  Then relate that Entity Permission to the appropriate web roles, and you should get what you want.
