Dimension based product configuration

Dear Champions,

I am trying to create a ‘Product Master’ with ‘Dimension-based configuration’ as Configuration technology.

The help file mentions that Dimension-based product configuration is based on the following key concepts:

Product masters
Configuration product dimension
Configuration groups
Bill of materials (BOM)
Configuration route
Configuration rules

Based on this, I created a PM and associated with Configuration ‘Product Dimension’. I then created a Configuration Group with few Attributes and few BOM Lines. I am disoriented with what has to be set up next and how all these related to each other. I intention is to create Purchase Order containing Product with dimension based configuration.

Hi Sarath,

You then need to define configuration routes and create configuration rules.

Please refer to below doc and follow the steps.

Dear QianQW,

Thanks for the pointers. Few more clarifications needed on this:

Q1 -

It is instructing to select 'Default order type' (of Released Product) as 'Production'. However, I need to try it for 'Purchase Order'.

Generally BOMs are associated with Production. If that being the case, please confirm if we can apply 'Dimension based product configuration' in a PO.

Q2 -

Nevertheless, I am still trying this out. But stuck at the below step

- Select the product

- Click Released product maintenance.

- Click Released products.

- On the Action Pane, click Engineer.

- Click BOM versions

I wasn't able to locate any menu by 'Released Product Maintenance'. However, in direct "released Product' > there is 'Engineer' action pane > but BOM version is disabled.

Why could this be disabled? Is there any separate page for 'Released Product Maintenance'?

Hi Sarath,

I don't relate this functionality being used in PO, BOM are used for production orders & this can harness the BOM functionality in detail.

Any how you have to change the item production type of your item to BOM, you can do that by going to Released products> Engineer Fast tab> Formulae Planning> Production type > select to BOM it would be activated.
