Install Business Portal

I'm trying to install Business Portal for GP 10. This server has WSS 3.0 installed, but not GP or SQL which are located on another server.

If I run the installation of Business Portal, it immediately shows an error which says "Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 must be installed" Which in fact is installed and running on this server. The installation then stops.

If I run BusinessPortalPrerequisiteChecker it gets to about halfway when it reports the error "Input string was not in a correct format" Which then also quits running.

Both errors are exceptionally useless, giving me next to nothing to work with. I've gone through the BP installation pdf and checked off all the prerequisites.

    Hi Joris,

Initial check, make sure the Regional Settings and Language is under English (United States).  BP4.0 is very particular on this matter during installation and very important to remember!

If WSS 3.0 is not used in production, might as well remove and reinstall it.  Create a new Web Application, Extend it and create a Site Collection for your new Web App.  Then you can install BP (ensure BP is registered with the features you will mark during installation).  What's next should be fairly straightforward.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Dencio

Thanks for the suggestions, regional settings was indeed set to English Canada. I changed the language option and will change the system locale tonight as it requires a reboot.

WSS 3.0 is unfortunately used in production so I can't uninstall it. I believe I should be able to use the existing application and site collection?

     Thanks,

     Joris

    Hi Dencio,

I changed the regional and language settings and rebooted the server. Unfortunately the exact same errors still show up.

Any other ideas on where to go from here?

     Regards,

    Joris

    Hi Boris,

This may take more effort as you need to ensure your WSS3.0 is recognise by BP installation build.  Please find the partnersource links on GP10 abd other enabling technologies:

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/Cms/Templates/document/General.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={5AEB5287-5A32-405D-ABD7-237664134CF1}&NRORIGINALURL=/partnersource/downloads/releases/MD10_ReleaseDownload.htm&NRCACHEHINT=Guest&wa=wsignin1.0

    Troubleshooting steps:

    1. Make sure create a backup of GP databases (DYNAMICS and [COMPANIES]) and WSS databases (e.g.WSS_Config and WSS_Content).
    2. Repair WSS3.0 instance (launch the CHANGES options) in the Add/Remove programs or Programs and Features applet in the control panel.  Or apply latest service pack for WSS 3.0, please find the link to WSS3.0 SP2 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=79bada82-c13f-44c1-bdc1-d0447337051b&displaylang=en
    3. Restart the machine after performing above and launch BP installation again.

Please find above as a guide and not as a prescription.  The main goal is for BP installation build to recognise WSS 3.0.

Let me know how you go.

    Cheers,

    Dencio

I'm afraid I don't have access to partnersource, just customersource.

I did install SP2 again, but the same errors are still coming back. I should mention that the server is running 2008 x64, and the WSS installation is 64 bit as well.

Here's a screenshot of this error taking place.

Thanks for all your suggestions, if anything else comes to mind please let me know. I'm not sure where to go from here.

    Hi Boris,

Your IIS/WSS (64-bit) is not a supported environment at this stage.  If you're on SQL 2008 (64-bit) there is a separate BP installation with SP2 that supports SQL 2008 (64-bit).  Still, IIS/WSS should be on 32-bit environment.

Ask your partner to provide you with the system requirements to guide you on this exercise.  PM me if you need a copy of system requirements, I can send you via e-mail.

    Cheers,

    Dencio

    Hello,

I wonder if bussines portal can be installed in Spanish.
