I want to give one user access only to Inquiry and Reports, when i mark them and open GP with this user ID i got message don't have privilege security to open this window so i start give this user security tasks related to system and company but still same, so what is the security required to enable GP to open.

Hossam, I'm pretty certain that you also have to assign the Default User role as part of the security setup for the login in question.

    Hi Hossam,

Just to double check, is this user a newly created user? Do you also have Collections Management? If so, when you added the user did you perhaps mark the following windows for Environment Settings in the Collection Management Collector Setup window:

    • Open Collections Main on Startup
    • Open Collections Tasks on Startup
    • Open Collections Query on Startup

If this is the case, you might just need to unmark the above.

If the above is not the case, it could be worthwhile to generate a dexsql.log while logging into Great Plains under the user. When you get the prompt, the file should then have information on the resource ID that the you were getting the error on. Information on creating the log file can be found on KB850996 from the Knowledgebase Site.

Here is an example of a section of the code that you might see if the security priveleges window pops up:

    {CALL DYNAMICS.dbo.ZDP_SY100000SS_1 ( 'aaa', -1, 1157, 22008, 2)}

The above line refers to the

    • User ID = 'aaa'
    • Company ID = -1
    • Dictionary ID = 1157
    • Security ID = 22008
    • SECRESTYPE = 2

You can then use the Dynamics.set file to identify which Product code you experienced the error on.

Additionally, I would suggest using the MBS Support Debugging Tool for Great Plains, as the tool has a Resource Information window from which you can use to plug in the Dictionary ID and the Security ID you have from the log file and it will show you which window you encountered the prompt on. You can check out Dave Musgrave's blog site for additional info on the MBS Support Debugging Tool  http://blogs.msdn.com/developingfordynamicsgp/archive/2010/03/10/update-to-support-debugging-tool-for-build-12.aspx

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Hossam,

There is a tool you can get for free from your partner called the MS Debugger tool. It has an excellent security profiler utility that I think will pinpoint the problem you are having. There is a very good manual that comes with it that will explain exactly how to use the tool.

No administrator's toolbag should be without it!
