OK to deactivate Sdk Message Processing Step so I can update a custom field?

We have a custom option set field called "Funnel" that we currently use to track the stages of an Opportunity.  I've been tasked with writing a workflow that includes a step to change the value of this field.  When I try to set the value in my workflow, it is not available to update.  It acts like a read-only field or a locked field in my workflow.

It is not Read Only or Locked on the form.  I deactivated all business rules and workflows to see if I could update it within my workflow, but it was still not available.  The only other dependency is Sdk Message Processing Step, so I'm thinking that must be part of what is locking the field.

I know nothing about Sdk Message Processing Steps.  Am I safe to deactivate that, make the change needed in my workflow, and then reactivate it again?

Thank you,

    Hi

Sdk Message Processing Steps are the Plugin steps.

You can disable this and re-enable again. Hope you are working in Dev environment.

But, the issue may not be related to this.

    Hi Barbara,

Could it be read-only on some other form? You probably have multiple forms.. specifically, check the form which is the highest in the form order

Thank you - I tried this in the Sandbox and made sure the field itself is not read only on any of the forms, but I'm still not able to update it in my workflow.  In fact I disabled ALL  Sdk message Processing  Steps, but the field still acts "locked".  I'm at a loss where else to look or what else I can change.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

Could you post a screenshot? Just so we knew exactly what it looks like..

Hopefully this screenshot will show.  You can see the Funnel drop down is grayed out.  Compare it to the Pricing Completed dropdown arrow which is black.  Pricing Completed can be updated in the workflow, but Funnel cannot.

    Barbara,

Can you please post a screenshot how that field looks like if form customization? Is there any chance that field is disabled by default and then enabled via JS or business rule? If yes you can do following - enable field, publish form, populate field in your workflow, disable it back again.

Not sure what else to suggest.. sometimes, you would put a field in more than one section on the form and it could be read-only in those other sections.. although, you did mention you checked all the forms, so it's probably not the case either..

    I meant something like following:

It IS in the header too as read only!  I made it NOT read only, saved published, and tried the workflow, but it still wouldn't let me update it.

So I removed the field from the header completely, saved, published, but STILL no luck.  Argh.
