Ribbon Workbench taking too long to import solution to CRM

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello guys,

I want to make a change to one of the buttons in the entity.  I created a new solution in the CRM with just that entity. I did not load any of the forms, fields dependencies and required components. Just the entity.

Using XRM toolbox 2017 and Ribbon Workbench 2016 made the changes needed to the button and hit Publish. It's taking way too long to import the solution.
It's been running in the background for more than a hour and still no signs of success. Am I missing something? My CRM instance is On-Premise 2016.

    Hi Donald,

Since you are On-Prem, are you able to restart IIS on your CRM server.

I have seen this behavior, and seems like in a few posts this resolved the issue.

    Please try it out.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for the response. I think it is a RW issue.

    Hi Donald

I have faced same issue last month. I started restarting my machine and clear cookie daily and also make sure you got enough space on your C-drive. This will surely help

    Hi Donald,

just wondering if you can publish anything else(not through the ribbon workbench)? Is it a RW issue or is it a CRM issue?

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the response. I am not sure if am doing the process right. Please tell me if this is right:

1)There was already a earlier version of the RW in the CRM syststem. Deleted that and downloaded the latest RW2016 Beta version.

2)Imported that to the CRM instance. Created a new solution with just that one entity whose ribbon button I want to customize and its forms. (Did not load anything else. No fields, web resources etc).

3)Imported that solution to the RW. Went and customized that button.(Was a JS function which needed to be triggered) Once the changes were completed, I published it. And that is when it starts taking forever with no successful attempts.
