HR Payroll set up in GP 2010

Hi, we currently use paychex to process the employee payroll and would like to bring it in-house.  What is a best way to transition over to GP? There are only about 5 GP users (we have two company US (head office) and Europe (branch office) and total workforce is about 150 combined. We would like to use GP to manage both US/Europe HR and Payroll.  Is there any consideration given that parent/sub is located in different countries.  Typically how long does it take to set up the HR/Payroll in GP for a small number of users? How does international HR/Payroll laws/legalities affect GP in terms of set up and usage.

    Hello,

Thank you for using Microsoft Online Communities.  I understand that you have some questions about setting up payroll and hr.  You are also wondering how this can be done for payroll in other countries.  To start off there are two options for payroll with in Dynamics GP.

    1. US Payroll

    2. Canadian Payroll

You can only use one or the other on a given workstation, meaning you cannot install them both on work stations.  As far as European payroll this is not available within Dynamics GP.

To setup US payroll you enter your employees, create different pay codes, assign them taxes and process the pay run.  We release different tax updates for the two versions of payroll that is supported.

If you are coming over from a different payroll process you can use the manual checks to bring in any beginning balances for these employees to update the YTD amounts.

I have included a link to the user guides for Payroll and HR.

There is a Human resources and payroll section on this page.  You can then find the Payroll guide and the HR guide.  HR is primarily used for tracking information.  You can setup your benefits and deductions that will roll down to Payroll.  The only real function that HR has for calculating anything is for vacation and sick time.

If you have any specific questions on the setup process or about PR or HR in general please let us know.

    Best regards,
