Is SL2015 supported on 2016 DataCenter OS version (or only on 2016 Standard)?

Is SL2015 supported on 2016 DataCenter OS version (or only on 2016 Standard)?  Since 2016 DC is a superset of 2016 Standard, I was suprised that for a long time official documentation stated that only 2016 Standard was supported.

Is this still the case?   If so, does any one have any clue why that is so?
