Data Import

I am trying to import data from our MRP into the CRM.  The problem I run into is that the CRM Data Maps have required fields and I do not know what they are for.  For example, under Products, I have to assign the Defualt Unit.  What is the Default Unit?  I do not need that question answered.  What I would like to know is:

Is there a place or a book that defines what every field in the CRM is for?

Well we're talking about a lot of fields here. You will learn what every field is for when you use the system. But a good place to start is having a look at your organisation by using a metadata browser. It will allow you to see the fields and details over every single entity inside your organisation.

A great tool can be found by searching for "Stunnware Tools" on your favorite search browser. (Can't post the link atm).

It's a free tool, it will allow you to see inside your organisation and you can export everything to excel.

I am the DBA at my company.  Every table and field is defined and documented including the relationship between the tables.  I have a great deal of understanding of our data.  My problem is not with our data.  My problem is with vague field names in the CRM.  For example, to import our products, I have to use the required lookup field Default Unit.  What is that?  Unit of Measure?  Manufacturing Unit?  Business Unit?  I have no clue.  And if I go to the Unit import map requirements, that just opens up a whole new can of questions.  I have to provide Name, Base Unit, Quantity and Unit Schedule.  I cannot fathom what kind of Unit requires a Base Unit, Schedule and a Quantity. So just what is this Unit table about?

So what I need is a definition of the fields and tables in the CRM.  Out of the two books I have, Microsoft Help, the internet, and the two forums I could find; I have yet to come across anything worth while.

Currently I am evaluating the system and I'm ready to give it a junk recommendation.

Have you tried setting the system language to your native language. Perhaps the translation of those fields can help you understand their purpose?

English is the default for both me and the system.  I understand the field names.  But just because I can read it, doesn't mean I understand what it is for.  Please read my example about the Default Unit field for the Product import.  What is the Default Unit supposed to be?

    Hi,

Have you tried using the link for Help on this page? That should probably help you understand what the fields in CRM mean and intended for.

Yes, I have tried the help link and it only explains data imports, not what the fields are for.

Open the product form in CRM and on that form use the Help on this page link. This will give you details on all attributes on that product form.

    Thanks!

Thank you Sam.  That's the best answer yet.    That does help me out quite a bit.
