Setup and testing of mailboxes and email server profiles programmatically

Hi all

I have a client that would like to have users set up their own emails in Dynamics CRM (on-premise, 8.2). I'm finding the documentation on this a little light - does anyone have some decent resources on how to do this? Especially around the testing and verifying.

P.S. The users access CRM primarily through HTML web resources, not the CRM interface, so the setting up and testing of the mailboxes/profiles will need to be done in HTML/JavaScript as much as possible.
