Access Dynamics 365 with power apps license

Hi all,

Could someone help me understand if it is possible to access Dynamics 365 app with power app for 365. We currently have app which is created in dynamics 365 but it has all custom entities and does not use dynamics OOB entities. So would it be possible to access this app?

Hi partner,

You mean, you only have "PowerApps for Dynamics 365" of "Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan" license, right?

If so, you cannot access D365 app.

Hi Lu Hao,

Thanks for the response. We currently have E3 and E5 subscriptions for different users. Both license types has 'Power apps for office 365'.

Just wondering if we could use these license to access the app in D365 (custom app) and do not have to buy more dynamics 365 license We do not intend to use any of the oob entities for these users.

Hi partner,

If the user only has Office 365 E5, then the user can access D365 custom app.

In addition, you need to add accessible security roles for the custom app, and enable permissions for custom entities for security roles.

Hi partner,

I am sorry that the last answer was wrong.

Users with only the Office 365 E5 license cannot access the D365 custom app, even if the app contains only custom entities.

The same is true for the Office 365 E3 license.

Hi Lu Hao ,

I am kind of unsure as we did try the same with one of the user and it worked. Assigning E3 or E5 license (it does include Power apps for office 365) to the user did allow me access to the custom app (in D365). Since E3 or E5 has power apps for office 365 dont you think we are on the right path?

Hi partner,

I have tested it in my environment. I assigned only Office 365 E5 license to a user, and after half an hour, this user cannot access the custom D365 app.

For the details of the licenses, I believe that the billing team is the real expert, so I would recommend you to contact them.
