We're trying to show P&L for a customer in a report - it doesn't matter if it's in GP, MR, or SRS. Where would I even begin with this?

I have personally worked on such a project with further more complications, it was primarily a Profitability Analysis considering data from cross modules so that multiple dimensions are available to calculate profitability accordingly, these dimension are:
Technically speaking, you will have to roll your sleeves up and start some SQL Development, regardless the presentation layer which could be simply Excel. In my case, I considered Excel to build a dashboard containing further "What-if" analysis which allows you to change specific parameters and calculate a theoretical profitability as well, here is a print screen of the pilot dashboard:
If that was your option, there are multiple essential books for building dashboard on Excel by MVPS Mark Polino and Belinda Allen which can you an edge.
