Upcoming date entry - recent date

Hi.  This is my query:

We have a custom entity, IP Titles (Intellectual Property Titles). Each title (entry) has 10 - 30 due dates for filing for the lifetime of the title.  I want a seperate field, called "Upcoming Due Date" that takes the recent upcoming due date of the 0-30 fields that have data.

Is there a way to do this without code? We have some javascript code running on other entities - and in these cases the business rules don't work where javascript exists.  Since I have working business rules in the IP Titles entity, I'd rather do this without code.

Please advise.  Our working process is that our IP Manager files out the due dates of the Title's lifetime in advance, and would like a seperate field that simply let's her know the upcoming date for that title.

THank you,.

    Hi,

If you are trying to populate upcoming due date i.e recent date of all other 0 to 30 due dates on the same form then you can write a simple JavasScripts to compare dates and populate the recent date in upcoming due date. sample code for date comparison  -community.dynamics.com/.../crm-2016-how-to-compare-two-dates-using-javascript

or if you wants to compare the dates in between two different records then you have go for plugin/workflow. that should pull all the records from your query with desired sorting order then populate the top1 record date in the upcoming due date. your plugin/workflow should fire when a new records created with date value or any updates to the existing due dates.

    Hope it is clear

Hi.  Thank you for replying.  The dates are all in the same form, but my fear of using javascript is that it prevents the business rules from working.   So they aren't different records, they all exist within the same record. Is there a way this can be solved?

    Hi Again,

Both should work, your script will not impact Business rules. Do you have Business Rules on the same due fields? but still you can have the script on some fields and test it in different scenarios to see if there is any impact.

Hi.  I do not have business rules on the same fields.  Ok, I will try this then.  Thank you!

Then, there wont be any impact on your rules. all should work in parallel.
